A True Disciple Of Christ
Updated: Oct 31, 2021
The basis, or foundation of Christianity, is in our relationship with Jesus Christ.
There are are many things that churches do that are good things, but the main thing, the foundation of our Christian walk and life should always be our relationship with Christ! Matthew 28:18-20
18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen. Notice that Jesus first Taught His Disciples How To Become Disciples Themselves, then He Told them to Go and Be Disciples, by Going and Making Disciples - So, let's talk about some basic characteristics of A True Disciple Of Christ! A True Disciple Of Christ…
Is Still And Will Always Be A Disciple Of Christ We should always be in training
Constantly strengthening our relationship with Christ
Constantly looking to fix internal issues in our lives
Constantly striving to be more like Christ As Christians, we always be working to strengthen our foundation…
- Through Reading the Bible
- Bible Study… on your won, and in a group
- Conversational prayer… talking to Jesus
- And conventional prayer
As Christians, we shouldn't be dependent on others for our spiritual food. Don’t believe everything you hear… research it for yourself… and everything must line up with the Word. Make sure that it can stand up to the Word. If it doesn’t… whether on accident or on purpose, it is false teaching. However, your Christian walk, should not stop at just constantly building and strengthening your foundation in Christ. We must activate our faith… and we do that by becoming Doers Of The Word
A True Disciple Of Christ…
Is Not Just A Consumer Of Christ, But A Contributor For Christ
Just like when a child is they must learn to crawl, then walk… as Christians we too can’t stop our development at the learning stage, we must progress to the doing stage… first crawling, then walking out your faith in your life
Both inside and outside the church, we must become a Contributor for Christ
Christ just didn’t call use just to be Consumers to the Gospel,
He called us to be Doers and Contributors to the gospel… to assist in moving forward the cause of Christ A True Disciple Of Christ…
Let’s People Know That They Are Christian
Romans 1:16-17
16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.
17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.” We can not be ashamed of the Gospel… no matter what the Gospel costs us!
It’s getting to the point, that we need to be prepared to sacrifice for the gospel.
And you don’t make the choice when they ask you… you make the choice when you makes sacrifices to go to church, when you make sacrifices to read your Bible, when you make sacrifices to pray… you prepare yourself to make the ultimate sacrifice by making little, everyday sacrifices.
- Without making those little everyday sacrifices, you’ll never be able to make the ultimate sacrifice.
A True Disciple Of Christ…
Makes Disciples For Christ Matthew 28:18-20
18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen. There Are No Breaks, and No Vacations… everywhere you go, there will be an opportunity to witness to someone. To share the truth, not beat people over the head with the law. Opportunities for the Holy Spirit to move through us to influence and change lives. We just have to keep our eyes open for the opportunity, when it presents itself.
It may be that you have an opportunity to plant seed, or water, or it could be that you are able to reap a harvest.
Also, Jesus didn;'t just say to Go and Make Converts, in the same way, discipling isn’t just leading someone to Jesus…
It’s building a relationship with someone, and teaching them by the living out of Christ in your life. It’s about being a living example of who Christ is. That can not just be done over the phone or text messaging… it must be done over time, in-person.
It is about having regular contact with someone, spending time with them, and showing them who Christ is, through your life.
That can not be done in just a church setting… it’s done at a restaurant, when your food is served late or cold, and yet you still react in a way that is respectful to the server. It’s about not allowing your stress to be put on others. Discipleship happens when you are out and about with someone, and you see someone who needs prayer, and you pray for them. Discipling is about teaching and training by showing… Living out the gospel.
I know that life is hard, and we all miss the mark sometime... But we should never give up, we should never stop trying. Everyday, we should strive to be more and more like Christ! Have A Blessed Day! Pastor George Finney New Life Church NewLifeKenefick@yahoo.com
